In late 2004, Beth and I went to Italy for a few weeks. During the trip, I parked illegally... not, unlike when I park illegally in Canada, because I wanted to park illegally but because I thought it was an OK spot. So I got a ticket... fair enough.
So we muddle through paying the ticket at a post office in Florence. I'm a good guy, I pay my fines (eventually) when I'm caught, and besides, Italy is a place I might want to come back to and it's embarassing to get off a plane and be arrested for unpaid fines.
Now, today, 18ish months later, I get a shit-gram from the city of Lucca demanding €39.77 for a parking ticket.
To that, I say "Va fungul!" Pardon me if the spelling isn't right, but you get the idea.
