I've spent the weekend in St. Catharines, with my side of the family. We have a big Hallowe'en party put on by my youngest brother - it's a truly excellent affair.
But what makes it really special, is that you'll never hear anyone droning on about the Toronto Maple Leafs. Despite the geographic proximity to Toronto, everyone around here seems to be fans of the Montreal Canadians or Buffalo Sabres.
That makes the hockey conversation so different than it is in Ottawa. You can open with a casual "The Leafs really suck this year." and someone will reply "Yep. Not just this year though... they sucked last year, and they'll probably suck next year." and that's the end of it. None of the self-righteous bleating that you hear in Ottawa about how the Leafs are so uber, so much better than the Senators, so awesome but underrated, yadda yadda.
Anyway, I thought I'd share that. I see the Leafs have finally gained a few points on the Winnipeg NHL team over the weekend.
