On-line Sky Globe

Math and Science, Outdoors

This awesome web site (sky-map.org) was pointed out over at Bad Astronomy. It is an interactive sky globe, similar to what you would get with, say, Starry Night, but free and on-line.

This is something that’s quite cool because Starry Night (which is what I use), though portable to a laptop does not have obvious support for wireless access (i.e. if I have it installed on my laptop and don’t have my laptop with me, I’m sunk). However, a web-based sky map can be accessed by GMRS wireless devices if need be.

I thought it was pretty cool, so have a look. There are many nice photographs available by clicking around the various objects.
